FCC—OPENING WHATEVER IS CLOSED THROUGH OUTREACH-

Our community attempts to live out its commitment to be an Open and Affirming, Just Peace Congregation in a myriad of ways. We extend hospitality and compassion to our neighbors both locally and globally as we offer our support through financial commitments and through the work of volunteers.

We are one of four partner churches supporting ELM (English Language Ministry), which is an ESL ministry focused upon the residents of East Dallas. Adults attend classes for half a day while free child care is provided for their pre-school age children. This program has been ministering to about 120+ adults a year for over a decade and plans are currently being made to almost double its size by the fall of 2008.

We support many missional opportunities through our denominational institutions such as Back Bay Mission(serving the poor on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi), Eden Retirement Home, Slumber Falls Camp and Conference Center, the United Church of Christ Coalition for Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender Concerns and hundreds of UCC ministries internationally.

We live out our commitments to opening doors and opportunties locally through our support for The Dallas Peace Center, Wilkinson Center, Central Dallas Ministries, Dallas Commons, Jobs with Justice, Cathedral Pre-GED ESL program, Jonathon’s Place, a local Head Start program and Youth First of Texas.

We live out our commitment to justice and ecumenism beyond the Metroplex by supporting the great witness and work of Pastors for Peace and The Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America, RESULTS (an advocacy organization for those willing to lobby Congress on crucial justice issues) as well as participating in international micro-loan organizations.

OUTREACH EVENTS:

Each year during the fall we celebrate Alternative Christmas. It is a day on which we let ourselves experience the true spirit of Christmas before the marketing campaigns and retail mania take over. We eat, worship and an opportunity is provided to purchase homemade Christmas cards with proceeds used to support ministries.

During the spring of each year FCCers lace up their walking shoes and set out on the Dallas CROP (Communities Responding to Overcoming Proverty) Walk. This 3.6 mile walk raises money for local ministry and Church World Service projects.
